Expert Answers about Toyota Trailer Spindles

  • Are #84 Spindles Threaded into the Axle?
  • No, they're welded. You assumed correctly. The spindles listed below that I referenced in your previous question all have to be welded on. There are no thread on spindles. #84 Spindle for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles - 2" Diameter item # TRU24FR #84 Spindle for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles - 1-3/4" Diameter item # TRU84FR Square #84 Spindle for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles - 1-1/2" Wide item # TRU47FR

  • Recommended Spindle Nut for a 7K Trailer Hub
  • According to my research your 92865 hub is a 7K hub, so you're going to want the Trailer Spindle Nut 1" # 165686. This nut will work and is commonly found on spindles rated from 2,000 lbs all the way to 7,000 lbs.

  • Which Trailer Spindle For CE Smith Hub CE13311
  • For the CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly # CE13311 you'll need a spindle for a 2,700 lb axle. We don't have one that works with that hub, but you'll just need to look for one that uses bearings L44649 for both the inner and outer bearing. Importantly, also be sure that the spindle is compatible with grease seal 12192TB, which has a 1.249" inner diameter, because there are spindles that are compatible with the L44649 bearings but don't have the right dimensions for the seal.

  • Are EZ-Lube Spindles More Prone To Failure
  • Hi Stephen, As long you're performing proper maintenance to your trailer and your grease cap is on the EZ-lube grease zerk spindle # TRU74FR should last longer than a standard spindle. The fitting could allow for contaminates to get inside the spindle but that's where regular maintenance and the grease cap can prevent issues from forming.

  • Recommended Spindle, Idler Hub, Wheels and Tires For Homemade Cart Trailer Off Road Use Only
  • We have the #42 Spindle # TRU57FR that you can weld to your trailer. It is a 2-1/4" round stub as we do not have any square stub spindles that are rated for over 2,500lbs per spindle. With these spindles you can use the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-655-6-K since you do not need a braking hub. The hub is 6 on 5-1/2" as the 5 lug wheels are not strong enough for the 10,000lb capacity that you are needing. The Loadstar ST225/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire with 15" White Wheel # AM3S870...

  • Replacement Hub/Drum and Brakes for a TetonX Trailer
  • Yes, the 12" Dexter Electric Trailer Brakes - Parking Brake Ready # 23-112-113 and the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly 6 on 5-1/2 # 8-201-9UC3-EZ are an excellent combination for your TetonX trailer. Unless your spindles are in bad shape I'd leave them alone. Usually when spindles look like they need to be replaced it's because some major damage has happened and a lot of times the whole axle being replaced isn't uncommon. Should you decide to have a spindle (or a few of them) on hand...

  • Is There a Replacement Spindle For a Dexter D44, 4400LB Trailer Axle?
  • My recommendation is to replace your axle with a 5,200lb like # e55SR as the 4,400lb spindle is so uncommon they are not readily available. This will give you stronger components to lessen the chance of you having to replace a spindle in the future. If you can provide me with the dimensions for your axle I can verify the correct replacement for your D44 axle. The #84 E-Z Lube Spindle # TRU74FR while similar has a narrower diameter of 1-1/16" for the outer bearing where a 4,400lb uses...

  • Best Guess On The Axle Rating On A 3" Diameter 28580 Inner and 25580 Outer bearings
  • Hey Troy, I am thinking that your axle is rated for either 9,000 or 10,000 lbs. The # 28580 inner and # 25580 outer bearings are the sizes for what we call a #99 spindle. The #99 trailer spindle is typically found on 9,000 lb and 10,000 lb axles. It is also most common for dual wheel trailers to use 9K or 10K axles. The 3" axle tube and 8 lug wheel also points to 9K or 10K. We do not carry any axles or spindles of this type, we can get you new bearings and seals though. You can use part...

  • Where to Measure On Spindle for Replacement Bearings
  • Sorry to hear about that John! But you will need to use a digital caliper # PTW80157 to measure the diameter on the spindle where the bearings ride shown in the attached picture for a replacement. Once you get this measurement feel free to come back in the comments and we can help you out, or you can look for it on your own.

  • Recommended Idler Hub w/ a 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern to Replace a Hadco Drum
  • We have ran into your request before. So I have an interesting solution. Your Hadco Drums use a Replacement Trailer Hub Bearing item # 501349 and a Replacement Trailer Hub Bearing item # LM67048. We have no hubs whatsoever available for this combo let alone ones as specific as you are requesting. In order to add a idler hub with a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern like item # AKIHUB-545-35-K you are going to have to replace your spindles with one of the following options: #84 Spindle for 3,500-lb...

  • Help Identifying And Replacing Hubs And Spindles On An Old Trailer
  • Hey Mark, thanks for the pictures. That is a pretty interesting trailer. I can't say I have seen anything like that before on a trailer with a single leaf spring spanning the whole axle like that. It almost looks homemade or like someone used an axle or transverse leaf spring from an old car. Anyways, the hub appears to be a 4 lug idler hub, but I am afraid I can't give you any more specifics beyond that just by looking at a picture. If you are looking to replace the spindle and hub, your...

  • Are There Any Replacement Hubs for a 1 3/8" Spindle
  • Heintz, thanks for measuring your spindle but unfortunately it looks like we don't carry any replacements for a 1 3/8" spindle because it is a pretty unusual and uncommon size. The best thing you can do in this situation is replace the entire axle with that have spindles with a more common size. To get a replacement axle you're just going to first need to know what the weight capacity is, and then measure the hub face to hub face and the spring center to spring center. From here you...

  • Recommended Idler Hubs for an Older Boat Trailer With a 1" Spindle
  • Hey Joseph, depending on your bolt pattern I'd recommend going with either the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles # AKIHUB-545-2-G-1K for a 5 on 4 1/2" or the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles # AKIHUB-440-2-G-1K for a 4 on 4. Both of these kits will fit your 1" spindle with the inner diameter of the bearings being 1 inch inner diameter for both the inner and outer bearings, include the races, seal, grease cap, and lug nuts and are galvanized for extra corrosion...

  • Can You Retrofit Hub to 3,500 lb Dexter Trailer Axle T3584F-8974
  • Appreciate that detailed info, and while it would be great if that was possible so you didn't have to get a new hub, there isn't a way to retrofit your old hub on the 3,500 lb Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with Standard Spindles # T3584F-8974. There isn't a kit for this type of application, and the bearings your old hub uses simply won't fit onto the spindle of this axle. So you will need a new hub that uses the bearings L68149 and L44649 such as the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3,500-lb...

  • Question About a Product
  • Unfortunately we don't have anything to fit those bearings, so it seems like your best option is to cut off the spindle and weld on a new spindle. A fabrication shop that specializes in trailer axles is best for this.

  • How To Find The Correct Replacement Bearings and Seals For a 2009 Single Axle Trailer
  • I can help you determine what you are going to need Robert, but unfortunately there is no database to look up information on trailers as manufacturers are not required to do so like they are with vehicles. You are going to have to remove one of your hubs and use a Caliper # PTW80157 to measure the different landing points on your spindle. I have included an image below that will help guide you on the points on the spindle to measure. Based on the 3,000LB weight I feel like you are most...
